Hi,
how to change language settings in VLC Media Player? I would like to set language settings to English (to see all menu names in English) although my Windows settings are not set to English. How to change language?
Thanks,
ABCuser

Thank you very much this works fine for me.
Why is there no option in Settings | Preferences window like most of the media players have? Strange...

There is, I just gave the simpler method and many users in this condition can't see or read the menus.

Hi,
I have changed the language to English with "vlc --langauge en" command, but now I have found out I have a mix of two languages. Look at this:
- Settings | Preferences | Interfaces | Main interaces | wxWidgets | on the right site there is no English! One settings below Skins there is all right site of window in English. I don't like to have two languages in one program this is totaly
So one more question: how to put all menus and all text in English?
Thanks,
Abcuser

Open Preferences -> Interface and look at the Language pull down. It should say "American English" if you followed the instructions. But of coarse you are welcome to change it to anything you want providing the fonts are on your system.

It is American English, but I still see two language texts in program. One menu shows English and one menu shows other language. Strange... Buy the way I have rebooted PC also is some old settings would stay in memory.
I have also tried to copy C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\locale\en_GB\LC_MESSAGES\vlc.mo to my local language folder, but there is the same problem. It looks like some language settings are not set in vlc.mo file. Does VLC uses any registry information that are not changed?

The language files are just pointers to your system files. It won't do any thing to copy them some place else. What is the system installed language? and what is the other language you refer to?
Try erasing the preferences directory. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner (this is you)\Application Data\VLC Erase VLC, Application Data is a hidden directory so you will need to make it visible.
You will probably need to reset the language again if you want something other than the installed system language.

Hi,
I have deleted hiden folder VLC. Start VLC and set language to American English. The result: the same! Some English and some Slovenian words.
I use Windows XP SP2 English version. The translation in VLC is 100% from VLC and not from Windows, because some words are not translated correctly and as would Microsoft translate.
Have you tried this out? Or is just a problem on my PC?
By the way, I have uninstalled vlc 0.8.5 few days ago witch was all in
English, and I installed 0.8.6 version, so the problem appears with new version.
Thanks,

This is actually a bug in translations. I've opened ticket #969 to track this problem.
As a workaround, you need to remove the plugins cache manually after language switch, i.e. run:
vlc --reset-plugins-cache
