Overiding windows media player

I've installed your excellent media player but how do I get it to become the default player?Windows media player kicks in everytime I go to play anything.

You set it through file extension association.

You can change the associations using the file explorer/Folder Options/File types, or, you can reinstall VLC and one the checkbox options let's you associate VLC with various file extensions.
