Try erasing the preferences directory. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner (this is you)\Application Data\VLC Erase VLC.

Application Data is a hidden directory so you will need to make it visible.

Can you determine if it's a particular file in the playlist that creates the problem?

Also VLC 0.8.6 test2 is available and you may try it to see if this helps you.

I've been experiencing problems with VLC lately too... It might have to do with some Windows Update thing because I didn't change anything in VLC and one day it started crashing every time I close it. It works ok, but crashes when closing. Sometimes it closes without a crash but you look at the processes and it's still running using a lot of CPU :-S
I tried uninstalling it and installing it again without erasing the preferences without any luck. I'll try again later erasing the preferences. Any other suggestions?

In Preferences, Playlist try shutting off "Automatically preparse files" then press Save and close the player.

Depending on the video card in use, some users have experienced a problem looping files for an extended period of time. Try shutting off the "Overlay video output" option in Preferences, Video. Then press Save and close the player. For most this has allowed looping files for an indefinite period of time.
