Help!

Postby saskeen » 18 Oct 2006 17:56

Everytime I open my VLC player I get an error that says VLC has encountered a problem and needs to close. I saw a previous post on this issue and the answer was to reset the preferences and I, not being a very computer literate person, have no idea how to do this. Can someone help me? Thank you so much!

Ok, I double clicked the vlc icon and before the player even opens I get the error. Is there another way to fix this or am I just doing something wrong?

Delete your VLC folder (read in the FAQ to get its location)

First of all, I'd like to informed that due to I do not have such privileges to computer in my office(just local user, not an admin), so I installed VLC in the subfolder of drive C ( C:\VLC ), not as usual in the Program Files (C:\Program Files\VLC). It works, really.

Then came up to my idea that I want to change the skin, cause the default skin is sucks! After I download one skin, and tried tried to assign it, the VLC can't work. Then I closed it, and tried to open it once more. It opened, but with the default skin (which is sucks). Then, I did something, which I forgot, that made VLC can't be opened anymore!! It says "Program errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program". I tried several times to re-opened the program, but still it can't be opened.

Because in the "add/remove program", there's no VLC program, I removed it manually, which I deleted all files in the folder, and I reinstalled it again!

After I installed, when I tried to open VLC (doule click the icon) there's an error message that even worse than the first time :
"<process has already exited> has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program"

After that message, came another one :

"Dr. Watson was unable to attach to the process. It it possible that process exited before Dr. Watson could attach to it.

Windows 2000 returned error code = 87
The parameter is incorrect."

Btw I'd also like to informed, that the suggestion that I've read in the FAQ part, which suggest me to delete the config file, didn't match!! I've tried to seek the config file, but I couldn't find it elswhere!! (It says that I've to look for it, in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\vlc\vlcrc) I even tried to search it in other part in my computer using the search function, and still no result!!

Any advice?! The sooner the better ...

When you did the search did you tell the search function to look for hidden files and folders?

Perhaps it is time to have a discussion with your administrator.
