Using slider in H264 movies - movie stops playing

Postby ss147 » 15 Oct 2006 19:28

Hi,

I use Nero Recode ver. 7 to create H264 encoded video 720x400@1000Kbit/s with audio 2-channel HE-AAC @ 128Kbit/s. The files are about 350Mb in size and play fine in VLC except sometimes when I use the slider to jump to the last half of the file, the movie stops playing (no sound no video) but the timer counts normally. Other times it plays and selects/jumps perfectly.

Any ideas? It plays perfectly in Nero Showtime everytime. I'm using VLC0.8.6

Thanks.

Suggest you have a look at the doom9 forum regarding Nero recode or Nero in general. Seems 7 had some problems and 7.5 is supposed to resolve them. Hmm!

But VLC is NOT the only player effected.

BTW I have experienced this. It generally happens after a glitch in the operating system. If you allow the file to play to the end and then try again it doesn't happen again. Well until the next glitch in the operating system. Still trying to pinpoint this one but it occurs so randomly it has been difficult to follow. The last one for me was about a month ago. Hmm! A problem that heals itself. :)

Why does playing it through fix it? I have experienced this problem and DID find that allowing it to play through normally fixed the issue. But since the file isn't modified during playback, the "fix" has to happen either to VLC or the OS. Which is it, and how can I effect the fix without waiting for the whole video to play back? Surely something can just be reset....

If I knew that we might be a little closer. :P

The last updates from Microsoft triggered it again. The file you are playing has little difference and the time in between files even if is isn't played to the end seems to count to a fix. :?: It's like there is something else running, But if there is I can't find it. At this point my vote is for the OS.
