My vlc refuses to play any files i open in it.

When i open a video file or a dvd cd it refuses to play it all this happend after VLC crashed from trying to open a dvd cd and i wonder if you got any thoughts of what it can be.

Operating system = Windows XP
Version = Latest

When i open a file it won't play it no screen pops up it just stay totaly dead nothing happens at all. I have tried to just paus and replay it and still nothing happens. I get no error messages and i can't open neither a ordinary avi file with it or a dvd movie.

Try erasing the preferences directory. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner (this is you)\Application Data\VLC Erase VLC, Application Data is a hidden directory so you will need to make it visible.

Tried that already :/ didn't work.

What happens if you try to play the DVD (menu) or use DVD simple from within VLC?

Are you having problems with other file types?

I can't play anything gimme a sec and i will show you how it looks like when it happens (if that might help) .

It stays like the second picture all the time had it on for 2 hours straight just to see if it can help but nothing happens.

I just wrote this a few moments ago for another user, but really the problem can range from not working right to not working at all. You might want to take a look.

Try them again had to change the jpg to JPG -.- .

It can also end up looking like this when i try to rightclick the dvd player and start the movie that way.

1. to avoid the Windows interface
2. to avoid the menu navigations module (DVD simple)

Idd nice wallpaper but yeah if i got it right you want me to start the dvd from vlc wich i have done and then it happens like it did on screen 2 the second thingy i didn't realy understand -.- .

I think he is referring to play the VOB file directly without going through the DVD menu to play.

Just a suggestion ,since nothing much happening.

Uninstall your VLC & install the latest Nightly build of VLC.

There is not much happening here because there is not allot to go on and installing a newer (experimental) version (in my opinion) is not going to help.

I will try to be more clear and direct than my link. The only way VLC will not do anything and provide NO ERROR messages is for there to be missing drivers on your system. Run a DirectX Diagnostic! If there are problems update to a newer version of DirectX runtime. Please note if other players are also effected.

You could also open VLC and then open Messages. Now try to call a file into the player. Even better try to play a DVD using the open disk menu. Try from both DVD (menu) and DVD simple. What does messages say about the problem?

While you have mentioned that you are running XP and VLC (latest version ? Version info.. is in the help about box) and that it once worked. You have not mentioned what your machine is?

When I referred to my link twice you didn't seem to respond with answers other than not understanding something with out being specific. It is the specifics that are necessary if you want to find a resolve here.
