Webcam network casting problem

Postby ercos » 21 Sep 2006 12:55

I need to cast my webcam image to multple computers in local area network. When i open capture device on server computer it shows picture. But when i try casting it to others, then client computers dont show picture. When i tested with a DivX movie it worked fine.

Client side gives these errors to Debug logging console:

main private error: cannot pre fill buffer
main playlist: nothing to play

I haved tryed with 2 different webcams and even with USB Video input device. Nothing helps.

Normally I don't answer these because there is no way to cover the given range of options.

VLC is very source dependent specially for capture devices. More often than not web cams are in cheep and dirty RAW format and finding another format and container to stuff it into is the challenge. Try DivX with MP3 in a ASF container. This should produce a MPEG43 compatible file. Please keep 2 things in mind.

1. Making a local transcode and monitoring the messages file before trying to stream will be very helpful in fine tuning the settings as well as sorting out problems.

2. For raw into most other formats the extra command "samplerate=<rate>" may be necessary for audio.
