I noticed, when playing certain mpeg-2 encoded files or VOB files, the total file duration displayed on the bottom is too short and the timer runs too slow. Anyone encounterd this also?

That happens to me, too. The time seems to increment at two thirds the speed it should. Also, it doesn't start at the absolute left of the line but about one sixth of the way in.

Maybe vlc-0.8.6b-win32 will fix your problem. Try it.

There are several methods to read time in MPEG files and VLC has used all methods except 1 which is to read to the end of the file before playing. Try VLC 0.8.5 and see if this is better or worse for you. There is no ideal answer here as MPEG does NOT have good time information in the format and VLC is a packet based player.
