I've compiled a modified x264 library and then also compiled the three h264 vlc plugin dlls. However, after replacing the existing h264 plugins vlc crashes. The error report names the new h264 plugins as the cause.

Is it possible at all to replace plugin dlls?

According to the devs, NO it isn't. The program must be recompiled.
