Quicktime movie pauses every few seconds

I found a quicktime movie that seems to pause every few seconds or so. It feels random, so I can't pinpoint when exactly the pauses occur. It shouldn't have anything to do with CPU power, because VLC doesn't peak to 100%, and I tried running it in high priority. The pauses occur always in this video, but it doesn't occur on other quicktime movies I tried.
I use Windows XP x64 SP1. My hardware includes a Athlon64 3000+ on an nForce4 SLI with a Radeon X800 XT and using onboard audio. I'm using the win32 build of VLC 0.8.5.
