File association changes

Newbie just started using the VLC and loving it, better than Microsoft et al. But, how do I associate ALL video/media files with it by default? I can't see anything in the preferences menu. If I click on streaming news on the BBC site, then I want it to bring up VLC not Realplayer and so on. Assuming it will play Real, Quick and Windows Movie files... :)

Uninstall and reinstall VLC.

Currently, VLC can only play the audio on some .rm files.
