Postby mc02000 » 31 May 2006 12:34

Hello,

I have a very simple questions.

Is VLC Media Player free?
We want to install the player on windows xp pcs in our company (I think on 200pcs)

Must we buy lizenz for the software?
How much money cost a lizenz?

Thank you

Hi mc02000,
VLC is a free cross-platform media player.

But note that only VLC itself is free (both in freedom and in money), but the codecs which it is using are not. You'll need to pay royalties to the patent owners, if you're using patented codecs (which are all except vorbis, FLAC, and a few others). You should check this with your lawyer, if you are using VLC commercially, e.g. in a production environment.
