VLC launch queries in desktop sub menus

Why are VLC launch queries placed into all my desktop submenus since I installed the program? I can't right click on my recycle bin nor any other application on my desktop without seeing as the 2nd and 4th items in the resulting submenu the following phrases:
"Add to VLC media player's Playlist"
"Play with VLC media player"
How do I get rid of these from my desktop submenus?
