Realtime priority needed for VLC process ??

Has anyone seen this behavior before? If I don't increase VLC priority to Realtime, the player is affected by other processes I have running simultaneously. This should not happen.

I can run Media Player Classic and others without this problem.

Is there something someone might suggest as to how I can resolve this issue?

Thanks!

This occurs on both my desktop and laptop. I have a 3.0GHz Pentium 4 on a Gigabyte 8KNXP 800MHz FSB m/b while my IBM ThinkPad has a 2GHz Pentium 4 on a 400MHz FSB. Plenty of horsepower.

I do see a similar type stall with my mouse only momentarily but that may be unrelated. I'm preparing to reformat the TP in a week or so and will load VLC on that virgin platform to see what the cause might be.
