hiding the control icons in fullscreen playback

Is there a way to hide the control icons that come up in fullscreen playback? For instance if I hit "n" the text "next" comes up in the upper right corner of the screen. Is there a way to supress that?
) - uncheck "On Screen Display" - Save and restart.
