Override MIME type

Hi,
I have a problem: for my Firefox browser both the VLC and the Quicktime plugin are installed. I would like to make a html page, where the video can be played, but I also would like to choose with which plugin. When I install VLC it stoles the MIME mov, mp4 etc. associations from QT, and the videos <EMBED..> set for QT are also be played by VLC. How to tell the browser which plugin should be used for mp4 file playback???
Thanks,
Abbath

At the moment I don't believe there is a way around this as the file types are embedded in the plug in.

If you have Quicktime installed, regardless of how you have the MIME settings configured in both, Quicktime presumes it has the lead in most formats it handles, and passes that override configuration to the browser (Firefox, in my case...). However, if you uninstall Quicktime, then VLC will do all the video normally.
The only reason I have Quicktime on my system is to play embedded streaming midi, but it presumes on .mov and other Apple formats as long as its there. As DJ says, I don't think there's a way around it either...

Ya that kinda sorta works but QT keeps wanting to steal the extensions back and you need to edit the associations so this doesn't happen any more. This may be accomplished through the use of Windows Explorer, Folder Options, File Types.
Still when you use the plug in the extensions are hard coded in the module. Personally I believe this needs to be changed, but is at the discretion of the developers. I also believe the plug in needs some features.

Selectable on install, or on-the-fly? And, how about a status/progress/control bar while we're at it? Money?...Again??
