skinned player by default

Hi, I am trying to use the skinned mode of VLC. I am currently using the shortcut for it but when I double click on a media file, it still opens in the default vlc player. I understand I can add the option in the file type preferences but I would have to do it for each media type. Isn't there a way for the skinned player to be the default mode?

Preferences/interfaces/main/ select skin as interface module

save and restart vlc
