I am very new to this player. I love how it does screen shots though. What I don't get is why some of my windows media files will play properly but most play like a DVD that is all messed up. Is there a preference I'm not setting right?

ctrl alt s

Preferences.Video under General video settings, untick the box marked "Skip frames" and in Snapshot fill in the Directory where you want to save these and the format you want to save it in, then press Save and close the player.

I don't have any DVDs that are all messed up so you will need to do better than this for a description. Please provide file type and format (audio & video). The Skip frames option may help.

Hi

I tried unchecking the box didn't help

These are wmv files which I created using pinnacle studio 8 from an AVI
I rendered the aVI through the program as a windows media file
For some reason when I try to open these files up through the vlc player the video is all messed up- double images, warped images etc. the sound is fine. I'm not sure how else to better describe it but thanks for trying.

You could try to erase the preferences directory. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner (this is you)\Application Data\VLC Erase VLC, Application Data is a hidden directory so you will need to make it visible.

Generally it is suggested to update your version of WMP, the last update was in Dec 05 and is not automatic.

VLC is using the Windows codecs for WMv and WMa. Some people have reported problems and updating has resolved this for most.

I'm guessing I have the same problem as the person who started this thread. WMV videos play fine until you jump forward or backwards and the the video is scrambled for a second until it clears. This doesn't appear in any other players I have used and I have tried re-installing Windows Media Player 10 and standalone windows media codecs. Here is a acreenshot of what it looks like.

I have the same issue described by Timo with some wmv files. For example this one: Honda Civic Ad, that file plays perfect in WMP and AlShow but it looks scrambled sometimes in VLC 0.85 test 2.

I have unticked the box marked "Skip frames". Any help would be highly appreciated.
