VLC 0.8.4a and HD mov

Using VLC 0.8.4a to play high definition MOV files that have 5.1 dolby digital audio, I seem to only hear audio from the center channel coming out of my 2 stereo speakers (connected through analog channel). In other words, I only hear speech and very little music or other sound effects. I notice this on all HD trailers I download off of http://www.apple.com/trailers. The audio is properly mixed when played thru Media Player Classic with the latest Quicktime Alternative installed. Is there somewhere in the preferences I should be specifying to downmix audio for two speakers?

There is a ticket on AAC multichannel sound not being mapped correctly ans something about the fold down to 2 channel gain not being correct. I have not experienced this recently and it it possible it has been fixed in the Nightly Builds. http://nightlies.videolan.org/

Well, The ticket is outstanding on this too, so I guess I just haven't run across any thing recently in ACC 5.1

Okay thanks. I don't know how the ticket process works, but for anyone interested in looking into this bug, all of the high definition trailers on http://www.apple.com/trailers contain AAC 5.1 audio. Just plug in your speakers into the analog audio out of your computer/sound card and what you hear is mostly the centre channel audio, i.e. mainly dialogue with little to no bass, sound effects, or music. Check out the excellent X-Men 3 trailer as an example. Thanks!

I have the same problem with 0.8.5. Is there any solution for this?
