Subtitles(.sub etc) with DVD playback

Postby spirit » 25 Feb 2006 00:34

I want to play a dvd with a subtitle that is not included, I have the .sub file (along with other formats .srt .sup etc). Whenever i try to play the file with the .sub file, VLC will play the dvd perfectly but only show the FIRST sub in the file and no other ones??? Anyone know how to fix this problem?

The Developers have mentioned several times that external subs do not work well with MPEG files. The DVD is MPEG-2 designed to have subs encoded into the container.

There is not a way to load external subs when calling a DVD from within VLC. You could try it from the command line, but don't expect it to work correctly.

8) and how exactly do you load external subtitles in WMP, a program that doesn't support them. Unless you are referring MPC, but this is also good luck when it comes to loading them with a DVD. :P

Hello

Are there now any plans to implement this?

Its about the only thing for me thats stopping VLC from being the best damn media player in the world!

If MPC can do it, why can't VLC?

VLC is streaming player. So copying MPC's code won't work like that (frame based player).
