Firefox Closes

I have 0.8.4, and the firefox plugin installed. I've made no changes to firefox since the install of vlc. I just recently attempted to watch a video that was web-based and firefox closed immediately after I clicked the link to the video. I had VLC running at the time, and realized it must be because I checked "allow only one instance" in the preferences. So, i closed VLC, and tried the same video with great success. I went back to the site, and tried to view a different trailer, and upon clicking the link to it, firefox crashed. It's almost as if the initial video is being treated as an instance of vlc, and even though I closed the tab I was viewing it from, it still counted as a running instance of vlc. If i uncheck the setting, I can view a video in firefox, go and view another, and firefox doesn't close. Is there any way around this??
The only solution i see, is either allowing multiple instances, and losing the enque feature, or keeping it, and having to restart firefox every time I try and view 2 or more videos.
One last thing...are there any ways to control the video in firefox?

Have you tried without the single-instance mode?

Yep, I've had the same problem, though I didn't figure out waht could be the cause... but have to admit, just deleted the alc plugins from FF plugin folder.
Btw, never had this problem with previous VLC versions...

did you read my post?? If i use single instance mode, and open a video in firefox, while vlc is open, firefox closes, and so does the vlic window. With the player closed, and set in single instance mode, if i open a video in firefox, watch it in firefox, go to a new page and attempt to watch a second video, firefox closes.

Have you tried the set "Enqueue items to playlist when in one instance mode" did it have any effect on the problem?
I believe that what you are describing could very well be considered a bug, because in the default configuration the problem would not occur. Thus it was probably overlooked during the development stage.
In the mean time you do have a few choices.
1. turn off the Allow only one running instance
2. pull the plug on the plugin
This would require the attention of one or more of the developers.

The enqueue only seems to work with files on my pc. When in one instance mode, with vlc open and Enqueue checked, if I attempt to view videos in Firefox, the entire browser closes, as does VLC. Currently, i'm running it in multiple instance mode, which I'm not used to. I'll be watching something, and double click another file so that I can listen or watch it after, and a new window pops up and plays it.
One other thing...is there no way to control the video when it's in firefox?? none of the normal buttons seem to do anything, but if i double click the video, it goes to full screen. I have to refresh the page to play it again.

@tonsofpcs, I think he is trying, but finding the recommended change a bit inconvenient to use. Being honest I would too! This is why I believe one of the Developers should get involved.
Beside this, the single instance mode should not shut down the browser when you simply try to play another file, should it?

I did try it, and I mentioned it in my original post. The only way it works is in multiple instance mode. but, as DJ said:

It sorta loses it's convenience. also no one has confirmed if there is in fact no way to control the video in firefox... I'll just have to get used to closing the player after every video.
