Display Error w/ Multiple Instances of VLC

Greetings,
My problem is this: Whether playing two files, or two streams in separate instances of VLC, one of them always stretches completely wide across the screen. It's as if it's obeying the height parameter, but the width parameter has gone to heck in a handbasket. If I've only got one file/stream playing at once, all is well. But when there are two instances, the second one to start up is always stretched wide.
I've only run into this one one computer of mine; have tried it on four or five other computers and the video widths are all normal.
Any thoughts?
Sincerely,
Scott
