Info-Does Player have a "frame" step function

Postby seehear88 » 31 Jan 2006 09:30

I just discovered and downloaded the VLC media player (v 0.8.4a for Windows). It's the best player I've seen, esepcially for the visual quality and video tweaking ability. The one feature I miss though, and want to ask about is "frame advance" aka "stepping" meaning a click-setting to advance the clip in tiny increments from "pause". This is very useful when taking screencaps (and also just to fine tine where you pause to see a particular image in the clip.)

Play/pause is clunky and moves the clip too far - it's very difficult to get small advances. (This is with MOV files, at least). Also, I notice there 's not a reverse function.

****Question - Does VLC media player have this "stepping" or "'frame' advance" feature?****

(If not, I would strongly suggest it for future versions - it would be an excellent addition). (A reverse play function would be nice, too).

Thanks.

I'm not sure that this is what you are looking for.

Forward and backward jumps can be controlled in full screen mode with shift left right, alt left right, ctrl left right and alt ctrl left right and are part of the programmable hot key settings in Preferences.

There is no frame advance as this would really need to be key frame and that varies from format to format and depends on the encoders settings. Plus the fact that VLC is a packet based player.

You may have better luck in "Feature requests" within this Forum.
