Audio clicking and popping

After installing the new VLC 0.8.4a, when I play any videos, I get popping and clicking. I tried reinstalling the old VLC .0.8.3, but the same thing now happens. Really bad!

Windows media plays the videos fine.

Try reseting your Preferences to the defaults.

If this doesn't help, you can also try changing the float32 option in Audio, DiirectX within VLC.

and ??

OK! the long version!

What kind of files are we talking about??

Do the files play in other players? You say WMP plays the videos fine, you have tried all of them? Are they different file types?

Have you just tried just resetting the preferences or have you erased the preferences directory? Preferred over re stetting, specially if re stetting doesn't help when an older version worked.

What has changed since the time an older version worked and now doesn't? Possible updates to system and you haven't used the player in a while!

What does VLC's Media information say about the files?

What does VLC's Messages say about the files?

I have no crystal ball here, you are going to have to give me something to go on.

Please note: VLC 0.8.3 was never an official release.
