Video Crop broken on 3.0.21 and D3D11 renderer

Postby CorroDedd » 21 Jul 2024 21:56

Hi,
I updated to the latest VLC Player version 3.0.21 and I am using a 21:10 ultrawide monitor.

When I try to crop a video (right click > video > cropping > for example 1:2.39), the setting is ignored and the video continues to play just as it is. If I change the video renderer to Direct3D9, cropping works as intended, just as in the previous version 3.0.20 with D3D11. I also cleared settings and cache while un/installing the old/new version. The problem with D3D9 is, that HDR does not work.

Currently I switched to OpenGL for Windows, which seems to work both with HDR and also cropping.

That sounds like a bug.
Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, keep this window open during the whole process and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.

Then you should create a new report ticket on the VLC issues tracker with your above report, the link to your messages log and the link to this thread:
https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/-/issues

If possible, because of this:

Hi,
here is the logfile:
https://pastebin.com/v25y1Ju3
I also noticed, that the window size is changed, after I chose a crop factor.

Another thing I've tried is pausing the video and then crop it, which resulted in a black video (or no video at all) and an error message in the log: direct3d11 error: scaler input failed, (err=28). This kept on posting until I stopped the video and saved the log.

Log uploaded here:

/Edit: Awaiting account approval for Gitlab.
