duration factor setting ignored

Hello,

I am using VLC version 3.0.20 Vetinari.

I have set the duration in Tools>Track Synchronization -> Synchronization tab> Subtitle duration factor. It works only for the current video. If close>reopen>play another video or play a second video on my playlist VLC ignored the duration factor set.

If I go to Tools>Preference -> All>Video>Subtitles/OSD>Subsdelay>Calculation factor and change the number there, VLC will ignore it when it plays a video until I change the number in Tools>Track Synchronization -> Synchronization tab> Subtitle duration factor. And I have to change it for any subsequent videos that is on the playlist.

How do I get VLC to stop ignoring what I set for the duration factor?

Thank you in advance.

You need to enable the subsdelay filter in the preferences.

I apologize for being a total noob. But where do I find the setting to enable the subsdelay filter?

Menu Tools -> Preferences (Show settings = ALL) -> Input/Codecs -> Demuxers -> Subtitles
Then on the right panel you can set the subtitles delay.
When done, save, exit and restart VLC for the new setting to work.

Thank you, Lotesdelere.

Just to be clear, my goal is to extend the time the subtitles are displayed before fading, then disappearing so I have plenty of time to read them. I suffered a stroke four years ago and my reading is slowed. I can accomplish that by adjusting the delay settings in

Tools -> Preferences (Show settings = ALL) -> Input/Codecs -> Demuxers -> Subtitles ?

In the parent tab of the subsdelay filter's tab.
