4k on 21:9 1440p ultrawide fullscreen

I've see there are 2 options to make 4k video fullscreen on 21:9 3440x1440p ultra wide monitors
One to set aspect ration to 21:9 where the 4k video is stretched with black bars on top and bottom
Second to set crop for 21:9 to crop the black bars off the top and bottom which really makes the video full screen
Since the video is 2160p 4k... and I'm displaying on 1440p ultramodern I'd like to see a full screen retaining as much of the image as possible
What would the affect be of setting both the aspect ratio AND the crop both to 21:9 ?
All info i see talks about setting on or the other... but not both at same time
Would setting both give me better video quality and less loss by both stretching the video horizontal and cropping the top n bottom black bars?
