Unrelated image displaying when playing audio files

When I play audio-only files (e.g. MP3, WAV), VLC will display an image completely unrelated to the audio file. I do recognize the image and it is stored somewhere else on my computer but I have never done anything to associate the image with any of my audio files.
It is happening regardless of which audio file I pick.
How can I remove the image? I just want the default black screen with the big VLC logo to be what displays when I play audio files.
Things I have already tried to no avail:
- Unchecking the metadata option
- Clearing the art folder in %appdata%
- Uninstalling and reinstalling (selected the "delete cache" option on both the uninstall and the reinstall)
- Used MP3tag on the audio files to try to remove album art (but there was no album art attached on any of them of course)
