VLC cuts first notes when playing CDs

I've noticed for a long time now that when I play CDs that I burn weekly, VLC cuts off the first half second of the single track. When I play the CDs on Windows Media Player, it is fine, complete. I have tried pausing it and dragging back to the beginning and it still does this.
VLC is up to date with automatic updates at startup.

Just tried the other modules (except Dummy and Disabled) and it still does the same. Set back to Automatic.

Does it also occur with commercial CDs or only with the ones you burn ?
Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.

I've never noticed this on commercial CDs, but then I wouldn't know if their tracks start with no silence or 1-2 seconds of silence before the audio content starts. And as I said, Mediaplayer doesn't chop the beginning like this.

It looks like you have a problem with WASAPI which is named MMdevice in VLC:

Try another audio output module:
https://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-2. ... _anomalies
Try with DirectX Audio Output.
Don't forget to click on the Save button, then exit and restart VLC for the change to take effect.

No. These messages are clearly showing that you are using Windows Multimedia Device output, aka WASAPI:
Code: Select all
mmdevice debug: state changed: 1
mmdevice debug: state changed: 0
If you swith to DirectX audio output then you
must click on the Save button, then you
must exit and restart VLC for the change to take effect.

wasapi is called wasapi in VLC, not mmdevice (c.f. logs in 5th message).

Then, what is mmdevice ?
And where is the problem coming from ?
Re: VLC cuts first notes when playing CDs

The MMDevice module is called mmdevice and the WASAPI module is called wasapi. Different modules with different names. Simple as that.

There is no WASAPI in the drop down list of audio output modules on Windows:
So ? Which one is the WASAPI module ?
And where is the problem of the OP coming from ?

The WASAPI module is not an audio output module, so of course it's not in that list.

DirectX output selected and saved, VLC closed and reopened.

Can you test this: from the menu Tools -> Preferences -> Interface untick Allow metadata network access option at the bottom then save, exit and restart VLC.
Does it work any better ?
