VLC Installer Stuck at Generating modules cache

Postby irishman2020 » 01 Apr 2024 17:57

I've attempted to install VLC several times with the latest 3.0.20 installer. Each time, it gets to the status: "Generating modules cache" and it hangs there. I have not been able to locate any logs or errors in event viewer.

Environment details:
Windows 11 23H2 build 22631.3296
Surface Pro 9
Encrypted C drive (plenty of storage space available)

Is there a way to view install logs while its attempting to install?

How can I diagnose this install issue?

Scratch that... after waiting 20+ minutes (I walked away) it finally installed. No idea why it was being stubborn. I had already killed the process after 5-10 minutes of wait time and rebooted, checked logs, etc.

That sounds like you have some antivirus or similar that slows down plugin generation unreasonably.
