Instant Crash When Clicking "Open Disc"

Postby mike-milligan » 19 Jan 2024 19:13

Just as the title says, when I click on Media>Open Disc from the menu bar, VLC hangs for a second and then crashes without an error message. This is before the "Open File" Explorer dialog comes up so this isn't an issue of a bad BluRay/Disc file.

Event Viewer doesn't give much info:

Code: Select all

Faulting application name: vlc.exe, version: 3.0.20.0, time stamp: 0x30b530ae Faulting module name: libqt_plugin.dll, version: 3.0.20.0, time stamp: 0x3a3b3a33

I initially noticed this problem in the Nightly (v4.x) build, but the problem also exists for me after downgrading to the latest stable release (v3.0.2).

Anybody ever run into this? I plan on submitting a bug report once my GitLab account is approved, but I figure I'd post here in the meantime to see if anyone knows of a solution.

First, reboot your computer.
Uninstall VLC.
Then delete the whole C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\ folder if it's still exists, it might be C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\ if you're using the 32-bit version.
Also delete the whole %APPDATA%\vlc\ folder.

Once done, reboot again and reinstall latest version of VLC, v3.0.20 as of today.
