Can Edit Video But It Won't Save

I have a video that's not anamorphic. I'm trying to crop it so the video will fill a screen...but nothing I do seems to work. I go into the advanced options in VLC and tell it how many pixels to crop from the top and bottom, but when I save the file and then play it, it's all scrunched up in the middle of the screen like the original video.

Just watching it, I can zoom in and it looks fine, but I can't find any way to save the file so that it plays normally while filling a screen.

Any ideas ? I've even used Openshot, but doing that the resulting file would be several hundred gb in size...which I don't have the space for.

VLC is not an editor. You'd better use a dedicated video editor tool such as AviDemux:
