When I play some MKV Video files I see a Green Line on the right side of the VLC Media Player VLC Media Player 3.0.19 Vetinari 64-bit, is this normal or is it a bug and if so please fix this problem.

Try to change the hardware-accelerated decoding option, save and restart VLC.

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of your original problematic file to WeTransfer.com or Disroot.org and then post the link to the file here.

https://upload.disroot.org

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 35#p193335
200 MB max should be enough but a full complete short file is better.

The same thing happened to me not matter what type of file i played, so i ended up downgrading and now the problem is gone. It has to be a bug with newest version.

EDIT: I could see the green line at the right side and at the bottom of the screen.

This will only work on some files, i tried changing from automatic to DX and i just got sound. Maybe because it is a HEVC x265 (.mkv) file and the DX cant handle that. So for now i personally think its better to just downgrade one version and leave HW decoding on automatic :-)

I had the same problem, see my comment :-) I do belive its a bug that needs to be fixed with an update.

As I said in my post you have quoted, we do need a log and a sample file.

Since i have no knowledge about this im just curious why you need this when its most probably the latest version. I do assume that many people have the same problem (many not even knowing it) and since its just the latest version that has this bug, cant you just test it out for yourself? :-) And i really dont hope i come across as that "argue" guy here, all theese questions is just out of curiosity.

After updating to 3.0.19 i also have this green horizontal line issue at the bottom where the video ends and the black bars begin. How can i get rid of it?

Just downgrade to version 3.0.18 and the green lines are gone. Guess we have to wait for a new update to get it fixed, really hope the VLC team is on this :-)

Because we don't assume, we need facts from the log and a sample file for being able to reproduce the issue.

I'm also having the green line error in VLC 3.0.19. It seems to affect DX11 playback only, and is most likely to be on HEVC/x265 videos, but I am seeing it on H264 at times too. No clue as to what the specific encoding metric that's allowing some videos to display without the green line is. Typically the line appears at the bottom, yet sometimes is on the right-hand side, I suppose it might be related to the image size.

Switching the output [to DX9] as suggested above does clear the fault, but then image processing doesn't work (personally I like to use VLC to apply a hint of sharpening on FHD video on a 4K screen). Using 7900XT on AM3/Win10 here, but seeing it on an RX6600 AM5/Win 11 system as well. Sorry, no video atm, but here's a logfile.
