Problem when deleting audio from my videos

I have started using VLC version 3.18 Veteneri a few weeks ago on my Windows 7 laptop. I have a dashcam and unfortunately it was set to collect all the sound . I have gone through all the motions as described in youtube videos or anywhere else in order to remove the audio from the .mp4 videos, but the result always ends up with quite a part of the video at the beginning not appearing in the end result after converting. And it is no use trying to do it again, it just wont get the full video, although most of the time there is no difference in length of the one with sound and one without sound. I must also say that the dashcam videos were all in .mov before I changed them to .mp4 and now afterwards trying to remove the sound. What an I missing please...
