I've tried assigning various keys/combinations under Preferences -> Boss Key and none of them have any effect. It doesn't matter if I am in full screen or windowed, pressing whatever I have assigned does nothing. Other keyboard controls (the default ones) work the way they should (play, pause, skip ahead/back, etc.). The only custom one I have tried to assign is Boss Key. Any suggestions?

Works for me... for the main window. But the icon still stands in the taskbar.
Make sure to set the Boss key as Global if you want it to work when VLC doesn't have the focus.
