dlna streaming not working with 3.0.18.0 RC - libupnp

I noticed that testing 3.0.18.0 Release Candidate there is a new UPNP library (larger size over 1M, filename: libupnp_plugin.dll)
in C:\Program Files\VLC\plugins\services_discovery folder that does not display any DLNA Servers under UPNP.
Replacing it with the DLL from 3.0.17.4 release (signature from: Donnerstag, 24. März 2022 11:08:57, 997k) DLNA-Servers in local network will be found again.
(Posted this in the wrong category before cos the issus happened before on android. Current case is with the Windows version.)

You should create a new report ticket on the VLC Trac with your above report and the link to this thread:

Your forum login won't work there, you need to create another account.
No dlna streaming in VLC 3.0.18 ?

I created a bug report on gitlab but it was closed.
As far as i understand the close reason is that service discovery like streaming and DLNA will be removed in 3.0.18
That would be really bad and result that VLC cannot longer be used as dlna client
With nightly build from Auf 18 the workaround using 3.0.17.4 upnp DLL in services discovery folder works.
Does noone else have the problem to vote against deprecation?

Interesting.
For the record, this is your ticket:
https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/-/issues/27306
And the merge request explaining the removal of this component:
https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/ ... uests/2547
At the moment, it looks like no other replacement is planned.
On a side note, it is also planned to remove DirectSound audio output:
https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/-/issues/27321
So there will be no fallback in case of a failure of WASAPI for some reason:

<quote>Jean-Baptiste Kempf @jbk changed milestone to %4.0 2 days ago</quote>
sad to hear that, so reading the deprecation notice the dlna and streaming features will be removed on milestone version 4.0 - does that mean, that we can use the 3.0.17.0 libupnp library as long as 3.0.x versions will be on the road or ist it planned to cease the plugins running with 3.x versions?

Hi,
The merge request simply removes a regression introduced by libupnp. No worries, we aren't removing DLNA client capabilities from VLC3.
This issue should be fixed in the next VLC 3.0.18 and you can try the fix in the newly tagged VLC 3.0.18-rc2.
Thanks a lot for the report

Aww that sounds good. I was able to test the fixed dlna feature now - for me it is working.
Waiting für 3.0.18 Release because of nightly rc2 build has another issue.
Playing mp4 files taking the slider to skip parts of the video vlc crashes without a crash report. it just quits.
[update:] this bug was fixed aswell and video slider works again
