Getting error VLC unable to open the MRL

I haven't use VLC for quite a while, so I download the latest version, 3.0.17.4 Vetinari. Here's what I did:

^ put the disc in the D: drive
^ Click the Disc tab
^ Slected D:\ - Audio CD from the drop-down
^ Click Play

The disc plays OK with Windows Media Player (WMP), but I'm unable to figure out how to rip with WMP.

I can confirm the problem. The easiest solution is to locate the disc in Windows File Explorer ---> right click ---> Play with VLC media player. That works for me.

Are you sure to have ticked the Audio CD selection ?
I don't understand why there are other similar reports about opening a disc, either audio or DVD, while it works for other people. Maybe the way VLC uses the drivers for opening the drive ?

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Works for me:
Are you sure to have ticked the Audio CD selection ?

In my particular case Audio CD wasn't selected. Doing that enables playback. Don't ask me why I didn't check that.
