no display of time when advancing

I run VLC 2.2.6. Recently, VLC stopped displaying the time when (1) I advance a video (long time, short time, doesn't matter) and (2) when I hit the "T" hotkey (display POSITION/TIME).

I have rousted through settings and find nothing that controls the time display or lack thereof.

Anyone have an ideas?

It works for me, but then I'm using the latest version of vlc which 3.0.17.4 https://www.videolan.org/

I know it should not be a matter of version. It worked in the past on 2.2.26.

You could try resetting preferences if you prefer to keep that version.

If you've made any settings changes to vlc and want to preserve those make a backup of "vlc-qt-interface.ini" and "vlcrc" files located in %APPDATA%\vlc and then use them to overwrite the default settings which will be restored when you reset prefs.

@Hitchhiker - thanks for that advice. It worked, but after comparing the "vanilla" files with my files, it turns out it is just one simple setting: ON SCREEN DISPLAY, found in the preferences "Subtitles/OSD" section.

Odd that what I'm asking be displayed (the "T" hotkey) is not always displayed. Seems the "On Screen Display" setting is probably meant more for the marquee stuff.

thanks for your reply.
