Bitstream or PCM from VLC

noob question: Is it possible to choose between bitstream and PCM as audio outout from VLC ?
Or is it a choice to make in Windows (10) ?
I have a GTX 1070 graphics card outputting HDMI and I dont get surround sound from video files that has 5.1 or "above"
The closest I've come to a specific problem is that PCM or bitstream is expected by the receiver is expected but gets the "wrong" variant. Therfor I ask here.
(This is beyond expected help but in case someone is wondering, it's a oled65B9 from LG and the receiver is a sony STR-DH550. I tried both hdmi to receiver and from there picture to TV AND hdmi to TV and from there toslink to receiver)

Hello,
It should be automatic. Make sure that codecs (ac3, dts and co) are enabled in Windows (you need to configure the audio output the first time).
If it still doesn't work, could you share the logs? (Run VLC, press Ctrl-M. Increase verbosity, run the media, copy-paste the logs here).

Hi tguillem and thanks for responding!
Yes the codecs are installed, in the case below AC3. (But doesn't vlc have inbuilt codecs?)
Here's a log example:

VLC has all its codec installed internally, but if you want surround via HDMI, VLC should not use its own codecs, but pass directly the codec via HDMI.
This can only be done if this is specially enabled on the Windows side.
Unfortunately, the logs you send are not complete enough, Did you cut them ?
