VLC Screenshots NOT being placed in folder created

Postby mackenzieh » 22 Mar 2022 00:17

When creating VLC screenshots automatically, they immediately go to the folder VLC Shots, not one that is created for them in the directory. If we as users create directories for the screenshots, the photos should go in there, not the VLC Shots folder. This issue needs to be fixed.

You should create a new ticket on the VLC Trac with your above report and the link to this thread:

The first link you gave me was useless, because it's basically the same complaint, just worded differently. I did create an account and I will try to create a ticket even though I know it won't get looked at. That's why I put my topic here.

Yes it's the same problem, which means you are not the only one to report this issue.
Someone must create a ticket for the problem to be addressed.

I figured out why VLC screenshots aren't being placed in the folder created. It's because the Directory for the screenshots is in 3 different places in VLC, which is just ridiculous. It should only be in one place. The only place it actually works is the 3rd and final spot which is Preferences, Video, Scene Filter. I still find it ridiculous. I did address this on the videolan code link. It should work in the first spot you see in VLC.

I have addressed this issue on github, but no action has been taken. The scene filter path shouldn't be the only option to get images into the directories, which is what is still happening now that vlc has been updated. There are browsing options for a reason and yet, they can not be used.

The Directory is useless when in video settings. It is useless because it is unable to work without the scene filter path. So, the only way that images can be saved into a directory is really: Video>All>Advanced Preferences>Video>Scene Filter>Directory Path Prefix. All of that work just to get images into a specific folder. That's just a lot of work AND you have to write in the path. Please, when the next update is available, fix this issue.
