Hi
I heard that I should could watch Youtube Video and other Network stuff with the VLC Player.
I just receive an Error Message (sry its in German):
Ihre Eingabe konnte nicht geöffnet werden:
VLC kann die Medienadresse '
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=########' nicht öffnen. Für Details bitte im Fehlerprotokoll nachsehen.
(# = for privacy)
So do I have to add something elese or some other setting that VLC use the Proxy?
Thanks

######## is not a youtube video ID. Without knowing what the actual link was there's little we can do to help you.

You're the one with the problem so you need to post a yt link which doesn't work for you.
EDIT: please state which version of Windows you have installed.

Here's a pix of your video playing. At this time I'm logged in to a VPN (Mullvad) so all communications are routed through that.
Try a different Output module. Click Ctrl + P to open preferences and then click the Video button. After selecting one via the dropdown menu click Save, exit and restart vlc.
Which Proxy server do you want to use?

I dug into your playback problem a little deeper and managed to reproduce the problem you're having which is that the youtube.luac file you have installed is out of date. So create a new one using the file released November 23 and it should be OK afterwards.
If you don't know how to create the file, follow instructions in this post. The link to where the code is located updates automatically so the rest of the instructions are still valid:

If there's anything you don't understand please don't hesitate to ask.

I can reproduce the issue with any site and any URL, looks like the HTTP proxy setting is broken once again.
Code: Select all
qt debug: IM: Setting an input
gnutls debug: loaded 249 trusted CAs from system
main debug: using tls client module "gnutls"
access error: HTTP connection failure
You should create a new ticket on the VLC Trac with your above report and the link to this thread:

For what it's worth, vlc works properly using a SOCKS 5 proxy. Here's a pix of the settings superimposed on the video the OP provided the link to.
I verified the settings shown in the image with Mullvad prior to posting this and they confirmed the details are correct. A username and password isn't necessary with this VPN.
The SOCKS 5 is running on the Wireguard app. Needless to say, anyone without a Mullvad account won't be able to make use of the proxy settings shown in the image. More details here:

It was just an observation on my part that a SOCKS 5 proxy works on vlc. I've never tried Squid, but you're welcome to use it if it works for you.

I'm lazy. If vlc runs into problems on youtube I simply use yt-dlp to download the video to my own machine.
