.mp4 fails to playback

Having used VLC for quite while, I have recently had an issue where VLC will not play an .mp4 file on my Windows 10 Pro (fully patched and up to date).
I tried several .mp4's and all fail to run in VLC. VLC opens the file and the first frame is display but that's all I get on a 57sec video, although the progress bar at the bottom appears to run ok from beginning to end.
Reset my desktop and un-installed VLC and re-installed but same issue. I downloaded the same file to my laptop (same VLC version) and it plays fine.

I installed 'Potplayer' onto my desktop and the file plays fine.
.mkv files work ok in VLC, so the only issue have is .mp4's?

My setup is a Windows 10 Pro 64bit
INTEL I9 10900K
Asus Maximus XII Formula
Asus Geforce RTX3060 Ti
32GB RAM
1TB M.2 Nvme Firecuda SSD

Thanks for any suggestions/help

Thanks for the suggestions, this resolved my issue which was down to the number of threads.

'Tools', 'Preferences', select the checkbox 'All' at the bottom next to 'Show Settings', 'Input/Codecs', 'Video Codecs' and 'FFMPeg' under 'Threads' changed it from 0 to 4 (I suspect 0 is use all cores?), 'Save' and restarted VLC and it worked!!

Thanks for your help ;-)
