I am running VLC player 3.0.16 on Windows 10.
Sometime in the past few weeks (not sure how long it's been) it has stopped saving manual edits to the Media Information.
I press Ctrl-i, edit the info, e.g. Title, and click 'Save Metadata' The new info shows as long as the video is open but does not show up again after I close it.
Changes I've made on files in the past are still there but no new changes are saved.

I can't find anything about this online. Does anyone know how to fix or troubleshoot this?

Plenty of free third party metadata editors around. Review of Exiftool on the Ghacks site

EDIT: correction: Exiftool isn't suitable since it doesn't support writing to mp3 files:

I'm not sure what creating a new ticket entails. It looks like I have to register for a different group. Does a new ticket mean the problem will be addressed? Thanks.

I tried to create an account and got stuck on some 2FA thing. I'd appreciate it if someone with access could create a ticket.

Yes, we are several users in the same case. They said they will do something else about the 2FA:

But as of today we are still waiting for this better option which will allow to help VideoLAN easily.

I see nothing about this issue in the changelog.

I am having the same issue. Just updated to 3.0.16, but I believe it was working before the update (hadn't tried it for several months, so can't be sure)

I've created a ticket, as requested. However, the link above leads to a page saying to use GITlab for tickets, which I did.

I'm sure I'm only one of many, many people who have wasted time changing metadata only to lose it without knowing this feature doesn't work. I could understand if it was a recently identified issue, but it has been around for at least 16 months!

I realise such problems may take time to resolve, but given the time since it has existed and to stop people wasting time editing things that disappear, can you disable the non-working functionality or at least display on the metadata page something like "READ ONLY - CHANGES WILL NOT BE SAVED".

Yes, ticket 24800 and ticket 27057 have been both closed, each ticket mentioning the other one as the reference, but at the end there is actually no opened ticket anymore and the issue is still there.
