I see it has been asked before, Old post years ago.
but I must be blind in one eye and can't see out of the other.
using Win10, VLC 3.0.16
how to edit the A-B Loop Hotkey in win10. ?
I found the Hotkey edit on my Mac version .
But it is not there on my Win10 VLC HotKey editor. yes I turned on advanced.
I know it is SHift + l .
but I need it to be the Control key or Alt key.
But there is no A b loop line in my hotkey window on my WIN10 VLC 3.o version.
What can I Do ?
thanks you.

Does it have to be a hotkey? There's an A-B loop button you can add to the control bar. You'll find it by going to Tools ---> Customize Interface. In the window which opens scroll down to A-B Loop in the bottom half and drag it to either of the top toolbars. Save, exit and restart vlc.

yes,
I need to edit the Hotkey. thanks, I see the key you speak of and it works. but I need to edit the Hotkey in Windows change to ALT or Control

Reason: I made a keyboard Macro box with buttons to send key commands to control the video player. I use it to learn songs on Guitar. I use it to Loop a section of a song. I slow it down and watch the fingering and picking looping it.
my box works well with VLC on my MAC and with YouTube. using a single Andrino file across all systems but I hit this snag trying to incorporated to use Windows VLC.
it's a Bluetooth Box that sits on the floor and you work with your foot so you don't have take your hands off your guitar.
thanks

OK, here's you have to do.

  1. Open vlc Advanced controls by clicking "All" at the bottom of the preferences window. Then type: Hotkeys in the left hand pane to bring up the menu on the right.
  2. Scroll down to Normal\Loop\Repeat and double click the letter "I" in the middle which is the normal hotkey. This will bring up the menu you see in the screenshot.
  3. Hit the key combination you want to use and then click Save.
  4. Save, exit and restart vlc. This last step is necessary otherwise changes will revert to the default settings when you exit vlc.

You can also make a backup of settings by making a copy of "vlc-qt-interface.ini" and "vlcrc" files located in %APPDATA%\vlc.

EDIT: sorry, missed a step above. After hitting the letter I click the Unset button on the popup menu and then doubleclick the name of the key to get the next popup after which you can assign your desired key combination.

correct me if I'm wrong but that procedure there only edits the Loop/Repeat control of the entire video.
Not the A-B loop control which is just to repeat a section of a video.
"L" hotkey just loops the entire video like Repeat.
"Shift+L" hotkey allows you to mark a beginning of a section hit "Shift+L" again it marks the end of the loop and repeats.
i want to edit the "Shift+L" command

As far as I'm aware Shift + l isn't an assigned hotkey combination, or at least it doesn't appear in the list of hotkeys:
https://wiki.videolan.org/QtHotkeys/

You could consider adding it to the Features list for future vlc editions: https://forum.videolan.org/viewforum.php?f=7

Other than that though maybe this vlc addon might help: https://addons.videolan.org/p/1154013

The issue here is that for some crazy reason it doesn't work in full screen mode. Would be nice if we could get this simple fix in the next update.
