VLC only renders sound on ASF files, no video.

Postby TheKiller » 22 Jul 2021 15:58

I checked some videos from my old DVDs and for some reason VLC only renders sound on ASF files and no video. Did it drop support for it? I would always expect VLC to play any video formats, especially old ones. Thanks.

Audio / video playback of .asf files is still supported on vlc.

To test it I downloaded a couple of sample files with audio in .asf format from this site:
https://filesamples.com/formats/asf

While there isn't a problem with audio / video playback the video output is pixelated. I tried converting to mp4, but that didn't resolve the problem. Disabling hardware-accelerated decoding didn't fix it either. Neither did changing the output module.

Here's a pix to demonstrate that audio / video playback of .asf files works albeit with the pixelated output. The file is the top one in the list on the above mentioned site.
