most old tv shows are 4:3 but some are 16:9

720x480 is most common for dvd video but widescreen is 852x480

I'll hazard a guess here and assume you're trying to play encrypted DVDs. But because vlc is open source it can only play unencrypted DVDs out of the box. To get around this problem (legally) you need to download a library called libdvdcss.dll which you can get from here: https://download.videolan.org/pub/libdv ... .11/win64/

If your browser is configured to download files to the default Windows Downloads directory open vlc's default location which is C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC and then drag & drop the file into that location. If you get a UAC prompt confirm that you want to go ahead.

If this isn't what you're referring to please specify what it is you want to do because at the moment it's a clear as mud.

I have DVD decrypter around somewhere too

Leawo is useless with widescreen DVD video so this is why I figured open source might have an option

A test was successful at capturing the proper aspect ratio so now I have to tweak the bit rate so the video does not look like crap

I guess it's not currently possible to support displaying the titles on the disc and select the ones desired?

Update: upping the bitrate to 5000 seems to be able to eliminate the pixilation I see with a lot of video online

Any particular reason why you're using the 32-bit version of vlc? The difference between 32-bit and 64-bit is that the latter can access unlimited amounts of memory while the 32-bit version is restricted to a maximum 4GB.

Installing the 64-bit version won't affect the 32-bit installation.

All I know is that the ability of various transcoders is all over the dial.
