Why doesn't VLC record sound when you are recording your desktop? Does it? How?

Desktop capture doesn't have the ability to capture audio, only video.

You can record sound separately in another instance of VLC.

I do not know your OS. I can right-click the speaker icon in system tray > recording devices > right-click there > show hidden devices > right-click the Stereo Mix > Enable. I can also check its properties there. Then I can select the Stere Mix source within Open Media dialog in VLC: Capture Device tab > DirectShow > Video device name=None, Audio device name=Stereo Mix (...
You can prepare a batch script starting 2 VLC instances with CLI options.

That works but only if I set it to just audio mp3. Rather annoying. No way to record both at same time?
