PC does not have internet acess and reinstalling the archived sw installation file on PC doesn't help.

Can you take a screenshot of vlc where you say the media info is missing and upload it to https://postimages.org/ and then post the link to it here.

You said that the PC doesn't have Internet access. Are there any error messages? If so please post those without paraphasing.

Also, please post the version of Windows you have installed together with the version of vlc you're using.

No error. Just disappeared.
HP laptop running Win 8.
Tried restore point 1 or 2 weeks ago and it worked, but, has disappeared without notice. Could try restore again but would like to find out cause.

Use your mouse to resize the left pane under the "Playlist" there.

That's not the problem. Currently, I have to use top toolbar (Media, Playback, Audio, etc . .) to select media and devices.
