Can VLC Player Play 4k UHD discs?

Postby metroplex2k7 » 10 Mar 2021 16:42

My GF bought an External archgon 4k UHD BluRay Drive (MD-8107S-M3). But we can NOT find any software that can read the disks. We've tried VLC Player, AnyDVD, MakeMKV, Cyberlink PowerDVD (which is recommended for the drive but the whole Cyberlink experience was a NIGHTMARE). So, I'm hoping you guys can help me. I'd be eternally grateful. Thank you. The only info I have as far is the log from AnyDVD:

Her setup:

i5-10400
Nvidia 1060 GTX 4GB
1TB m.2 SSD
32 GB DDR4-3000 RAM
Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

For VLC playback with libaacs.dll and no other decryptors, you need:
* UHD friendly drive, i.e. drive that reads UHD but accepts AACS 1.0 host certificates intended for normal BD (don't know your drive is, if you are lucky there's a hacked firmware available for your drive, check MakeMKV forums)
* unrevoked host certificate (to circumvent bus encryption)
* disc specific unit key (to decrypt the movie)

Using MakeMKV is probably your safest bet if you have no idea what i'm talking about above :)
