Recording issues

Why is it so difficult to get VLC to record a live stream? Why do I have to fight so hard to get anything accomplished? You have the system in place, can you just make the damn thing work reliably. Right now, it's a total crapshoot. If you put something in the product, please MAKE IT WORK.

OK, let me see if I can record it myself. Be back in a few mins.

I could do SpaceX today on 1st attempt
VRF (Virtual Railfan) sites must be re-loaded using the "recent" menu; Any of the 1st 3 are the same page. This is not always successful. I usually start 10 minutes ahead to line up whether its going to work. Thank you for checking

You had more luck than I did then. All my efforts succeeded in producing was a 1KB mp4 file. Very frustrating.

I'll have another go tomorrow (it's getting a bit late now on my side of the Pond), but I'll have to reconfigure my custom settings if you say the recent media setting has to be used. I disabled the option called "Save recently played items" a long time ago which means the menu item you mentioned doesn't appear in the list.

That .mp4 file turns out to be audio when converted to .mp3. I have used those to sync with a screen capture (no sound) video. Try going though the "load recent" list. that's the only way I can even get lucky. Fail rate approx 80% or more.

Try a nightly build of vlc version 4.0: https://nightlies.videolan.org/

Thanks, I will, I have been using 3.0.11. I will keep you up to date on my results.

Well I tried it and aside from a wacky interface, it would not play anything. Now I need to download the old version.

I think the best thing to do is to file it as a bug at https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/

Include the link to this thread so that the devs can see what steps have been taken already to try and resolve the issue.
